Since the beginning of 2012, the insurance companies have paid one billion UAH to the Ukrainians suffered in road traffic accidents, general director of the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine Borys Vizirov said during the All-Ukrainian Forum "National system of road safety. Ways to reform," ForUm correspondent reports.
"As of today, Ukraine registered 9.2 million vehicles, including 86% insured. Insurance market increases the amount of compensation. Since the beginning of the year, the insurance companies have satisfied 700 thousand applications of the road traffic accidents participants. This is one billion UAH," he said.
According to the organizers of the forum, each year almost 200 thousand traffic accidents occur in Ukraine with about 40 thousand people injured and more than four thousand people killed.
"On November 12, the Ukrainian Road Safety Week 2012 under the slogan “Road safety depends on everybody” has started. Its main tasks include informing the citizens about the situation on the roads and the measures being taken in the country in order to improve it, as well as uniting the society to overcome the outbreak of the road accidents," deputy head of the "Association of Road Safety" Oleksandr Skybynetsky informed.
