Road safety in Ukraine requires additional attention, head of the Internal Ministry traffic police department Valery Lozovyi told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.
According to him, about 14 people are killed and more than 100 road users are injured every day in Ukraine in 70 road accidents. "More than four thousand people have been killed in road accidents this year," Lozovyi said, adding that speeding has been the main reason for accidents within 10 months of the current year.
Lozovyi also said that 5563 or 23.3% accidents happened as a violation of maneuvering, 2149, or 7.8% - violation of rules, 1957 or 7.1% - non-distance, 1846 or 6.7 % - of drink-driving.
He stated that on November 12-18, the Ukrainian Road Safety Week will be announced in Ukraine. According to Lozovyi, the event will take place within the UN Decade for Road Safety.
