Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych expressed his gratitude to Cyprus for its commitment to support Ukraine on its path of European integration.
"We sincerely appreciate the support of the Cypriot party, which currently holds the presidency of the EU Council, in particular President Mr. Christofias for his willingness to provide active support in the way of Ukraine's rapprochement with the European Union, in particular, in speeding up the signing of the Association Agreement, as well as the liberalization of the visa regime," Yanukovych said after the Ukrainian-Cypriot negotiations, ForUm learned from the President’s press office.
According to Yanukovych, the parties discussed the prospects of cooperation between Ukraine and Cyprus in the international arena, particularly in the context of Ukraine's chairmanship of the OSCE in 2013. "In this regard, Ukraine stands for mutually acceptable and equitable solutions to "the Cyprus issue" on the basis of international law and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions," he said.
The President of the Republic of Cyprus noted that Cyprus supports European integration aspirations of Ukraine. "We express our support for the European direction of Ukraine," Mr. Christofias said, expressing confidence that the Ukrainian party will make every effort in this direction.
