Ukraine pays $1 billion for Russian gas monthly, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said during the Cabinet’s meeting on Wednesday, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Less currency earnings come to the country. At the same time, the Russian gas price puts pressure on Ukraine. Still in 2009, Ukraine paid 520 million dollars monthly, today - about 1 billion," Azarov said.

According to the PM, Ukraine has found itself "in the clutches of inappropriate market conditions."
"55% of domestic production and 41% imported production are sold on the domestic consumer market. A rich country with a growing export can afford such a ratio. We have a different situation. In addition, we need not only to survive, but also to develop under such conditions," Azarov said.

He believes that in this situation the responsible politicians must put disputes aside.
