The European Council will consider the situation in Ukraine and the results of the parliamentary elections at the meeting on November 19, former European Commission President Romano Prodi said at the forum "European model. Challenges and Solutions" in Düsseldorf (Germany), ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the politician, it is still early to make predictions about the relevant decisions of the meeting, "but personally, I still think that the Association Agreement with Ukraine was a necessary step. We need to take steps in a positive direction and to sign the agreement as soon as possible".
Regarding the prospect of Ukraine's membership in the European Union, Prodi said that enlargement at expense of such large country as Ukraine is not on the agenda. "We can make political statements about the prospect of membership, when we can provide an agenda - otherwise it will be vague. So it is hard to imagine that today or tomorrow Ukraine will join the EU," the politician believes.

However, he added that Ukraine is the part of Europe because Ukraine is part of the European culture and traditions. "I have always regarded the Ukrainians as Europeans," the ex-President of the EC assured.
