Startup of the upper reservoir of the Dniester hydroelectric pumped storage power plant is another step towards strengthening the energy security of Ukraine, President Viktor Yanukovych said after the ceremonial commissioning of the upper reservoir of the Dniester PSP and overhead power line of the Dniester PSP - Bar, the President’s press service informs.
"The startup of the upper reservoir of the Dniester hydroelectric pumped storage power plant will increase annual energy production of first hydro station four-fold - up to 1 billion kilowatt-hours. This will also contribute to the provision of electric systems with regulating mobile facilities that will enhance the energy security of Ukraine due to reduced gas consumption," he said.
Yanukovych stressed that the construction of this facility will also improve environmental performance of domestic electricity and creation of new jobs. According to Yanukovych, two thousand employees are involved in the construction and the implementation of the first phase of construction of the station will provide additional 400 jobs.
"I would like to thank all involved for the efficient and consistent work within the entire process of construction," he said.
