The government of Ukraine within the targeted green investments (Kyoto protocol) allocated nearly one billion hryvnia to implement a project of the comprehensive modernization of Kyiv subway carriages, head of the Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

He noted that 95 subway carriages will be upgraded under this project, and they will be used at the Svyatoshynsky-Brovarsky metro line.

Popov also said that this project will allow to solve partially the issue on modernization of the Kyiv subway carriages. "This project solves the issue on modernization and replacement of carriages in our metro by almost 35%. The project is the most large-scale in terms of the use of money within the Kyoto protocol, and in our opinion, it contributes to further cooperation with Japan on such issues," the official stressed.

He added that the project will last 18 months and it will be started to implement after the first advance. According to Popov, it should be realized in the near future. "The first experimental carriage is expected in the first half of 2013," Popov summed up.
