As of October 23, the transit of Russian gas on the territory of Ukraine amounted to 64.8 billion cubic meters decreasing by 25% compared with the last year's volume or by 16.2 billion cubic meters, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine reports.
In addition, according to the Ministry, the consumption of Russian gas in Ukraine decreased by 10.3%.
Earlier, a source at Gazprom predicted that by the end of 2012, the transit of gas through Ukraine will decrease by 24-35%. Accordingly, the loss of Ukraine will amount to about 500 million dollar mainly due to the launch by Russia of the North Stream gas pipeline.
