The State Service of Ukraine on Protection of Personal Data supports the Declaration on privacy protection on the Internet, the participants of the presentation of the draft Declaration stated, ForUm correspondent reports.

In particular, chairman of the TELAS Association Oleksiy Mervinskiy noted that "the protection of personal data is an important component of the national program for the protection of the rights and liberties of every citizen."

According to him, the system of personal data protection, now being formed in the state, meets European standards regarding addressing privacy. First, it is the principle of self-regulation. "We support the Declaration and we believe that it will be significant step towards the protection of personal data and the protection of privacy in general in Ukraine in line with European standards," he said.

In turn, chairman of the Ukrainian Personal Data Protection NGO Yuri Kohut said that the fundamental principles of the declaration is based on the provisions of the Convention for the protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data, the recommendations of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the law of Ukraine on protection of personal data and a number of EU directives.

"The main purpose of the Declaration is to develop practical measures and tools, techniques and methods of protection of personal data on the Internet," he said.
