The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine brought a charge against former employee of the President’s guard Major Mykola Melnychenko over divulging state secrets,Melnychenko’s lawyer Mykola Nedilko informed.
According to him, investigations involving Melnychenko were conducted in the building of the Main Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office until 10 p.m. on October 24.
In the course of investigations, Melnychenko was charged in a criminal case, which had previously been brought against him by the Prosecutor General's Office.
After that, Melnychenko was sent to the detention center of the Security Service of Ukraine, where he will stay until the Shevchenko district court of Kyiv decides on preventive measures.
The lawyer said that the court must consider the issue within two days upon detention and predicted that Melnychenko either will be taken into custody or released in his own custody.
In addition, Nedilko mentioned he has no reasons to believe that the court hearing will be held behind closed doors.
