Ukraine is committed to reform the energy sector and is willing to openly discuss further development, head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Ian Tombinsky said during the discussion "Ukraine and its investors: who will control the ownership of the securities?", ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the diplomat, this is the main reason why the European Union has provided financial support to the Energy Policy of Ukraine Review.

"Now the world's energy markets are under significant transformation, and this is reflected in the cost of energy in Europe, America, and Asia. Today, the reality of the market is changing rapidly, and the time is important. Thus we need to diversify energy sources and energy supplies. In this regard, the experience of the International Energy Agency is very valuable, it is not surprising that the EU takes an active part in the work of this institution," he said.

Tombinsky also stressed that Ukraine has adopted the Energy Strategy till 2030 and this is very important for the economic and social development.

"The balance between supply and demand is very important on domestic market. In general, Ukraine is a partner of the European Union, and in November 2011, the Council of the European Union approved the external energy policy, with respect to Ukraine in particular. Well-functioning energy markets in the neighboring countries, based on principles of transparency, competitiveness and sustainable development, will promote to energy security throughout Europe," the diplomat said.

"For us it is important that Kyiv has pledged to introduce a substantial part of the European energy legislation. I believe that the reforms we expect from Ukraine will improve its energy security and attract significant investment in energy production and in its transportation system. All this is essential for obtaining the status of EU membership candidate. We are ready to give support for Ukraine in reforming the entire spectrum of issues, including financial support," Tombinsky concluded.
