Entry into the international energy community has allowed Ukraine to fully adapt legislation to the EU standards, energy and coal industry ministry of Ukraine Yuri Boiko said during the presentation of the Energy Policy of Ukraine Review, ForUm correspondent reports.

The minister said that today almost all the norms in the domestic energy sector are adapted to the European standards. "If there are enough investments in our energy sector, we will achieve a sufficient level of domestic production and manufacturing to meet all development plans," the official said.

"Our plans to increase energy security are ambitious enough - he continued. - The priorities include increasing the domestic production of both natural gas and oil, while reducing imports. Second, it is necessary to switch from gas to electric power plants or coal. In 2012, we have progressed in this respect – we have saved more than $ 2 billion due to less consumption of natural gas".

Boiko added: a very ambitious project begins in November - the construction of liquefied natural gas terminal. "In the next decade, these measures should lead to energy independence of the country. We understand that this is a very hard way and that we are in the very beginning. But if we do not have reliable electricity sector, the economic growth and the improvement of living standards will be impossible," the minister concluded.
