Promotion of healthy lifestyle, especially among children and young people today remains an important issue for Ukraine, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said, speaking at the opening of the III Sports Congress of Ukraine, ForUm learned from the President’s press service.
"Development of physical culture and sports is the priority of the modern Ukraine. Our goal in this area is to improve the health of citizens, promoting healthy lifestyle and enhancing the international image of the state," he said.
Yanukovych noted that the year 2012 was full of bright sporting events for our state. He mentioned the success of the European Football Championship finals the best international presentation of Ukraine in this context. "It has given a new impetus to the development of sports infrastructure and tourism in our country," the President said.
The President also added that there were other international competitions, held in Ukraine at a high organizational level - the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup, the World Fencing Championship and the F-1 Powerboat World Championship.
The President paid special attention to the decent performance of the Ukrainian team at the XXX Summer Olympics and XIV Paralympics in London.
