Guards in supermarkets won’t be armed, president of the Ukrainian Security Professionals Federation Serhiy Shabovta told in the interview with KP in Ukraine, commenting on entry into force of the law on entry security services.

"Article 16 of the law clearly states that the use of non-lethal weapons is unacceptable in public places. In addition, there is a danger that customer, suspected of stealing, can grab a gun of a and open fire," he said.

According to him, only companies having central security console can get weapon.

He also said that the non-lethal weapons can be applied only after a warning in the event of a clear threat to the guards or another person and without warning - only in case of a sudden attack.
In addition, he said, the store administration should be responsible for the luggage locker on its territory. "If this is not done deliberately, guards won’t have direct obligations before customers, of course," he said.

Shabovta noted that in the near future the guards won’t get weapon.

Responding to the question whether the security guard will have the right to carry arms on the street during off-duty hours, Shabovta answered categorically. "No. The Interior Ministry will determine the procedure of accounting, storage and distribution of arms. I believe that the procedure will be similar to that which exists in the police," Shabovta summed up.
