The working group on improving the language legislation considers that the Verkhovna Rada should grant status of a regional language, member of the working group, professor at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy National University Volodymyr Vasylenko told a press conference.
According to him, the working group prepared the bill, in which approach to the provision of regional language status is completely changed.
According to the bill, the status of regional language may be granted only within the territorial boundaries of a village, town or city.
In the case of signature collection of 30% of the territorial community citizens in favor of granting the status of a regional language within appropriate village, town or city council directs the appropriate application to the regional council, which in turn directs it to the Parliament.
In turn, the Parliament adopts a law on the promotion and protection of regional language within the boundaries of a village, town or city.
