"Our countries face similar challenges. We both had to implement reforms to build a system on the principles of a market economy. Latvia and Ukraine are in the process of reform. Yes, we made mistakes. But over the last 20 years we have managed to build an independent state and the economy," Ulmanis said.
According to him, the conducted reforms helped Latvia to join the European Union (EU).
"We achieved success in the reforms, which allowed us to become the EU member. Ukraine can always rely on our support in the way of its European integration ... Our relations are positive and effective," he added.
Earlier, the Vice-President of the European Parliament Jacek Protasiewicz said that further cooperation between the European Union and Ukraine depends on the course of the parliamentary elections.
