Prime Minister Mykola Azarov considers that Russia, obtaining temporary benefit from high gas prices for the largest buyer of gas – Ukraine, may lose this customer soon.
He said this in Krivoy Rog during a meeting with the Dnipropetrovsk regional association of local government.
"Now you get benefits from the treacherous agreement, but these are temporary benefits. Sooner or later the time will come, and we will not buy anything at that price," Azarov said.
He noted that refusing to reduce the gas price, Russia puts Ukraine in the "difficult situation" and makes carry enormous costs for gas exploration and production, as well as switching to energy-saving technology.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the issue of search for alternative sources of gas for Ukraine's is a burning one, but the state could not solve these issues as quickly, as it is being done now.
However, Azarov expressed confidence that Ukraine will eventually solve all gas problems with Russia, and Russia will be a strategic partner of Ukraine for years.
"Sooner or later, we will, of course, solve the problem ... If you look to the future of our relations, they should remain friendly for years, for decades, for hundreds of years. And for us, it is a strategy," he said.
