The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine assured that the introduction of passport documents with electronic and biometric data does not mean that the passports previously issued will cease to be in force, FM spokesman Oleksandr Dikusarov told a briefing.
"In accordance with the existing international practice, this does not mean an automatic loss of validity of passports issued before this law came into force. Old passports will be valid for the period they were issued," Dikusarov noted.
He added that the Parliament's adoption of the law on the introduction of passports with electronic and biometric data is a step to implement the action plan on visa liberalization with the EU. In addition, according to the FM spokesman, it will greatly simplify the identification of a person and protect documents from forgery.
