On Tuesday, the Lviv Regional Council invalidated the law on principles of national language policy in Lviv region. The decision was taken at the session.
64 of 64 deputies present voted in favor of the decision, with 59 required.
The initiative to invalidate the law was voiced by deputy of the Regional Council from the All-Ukrainian Union "Freedom" Irina Farion.
She explained her proposal with the fact that the law is anti-state one and that the procedure of its passing was violated in the Verkhovna Rada.
Thus, the Regional Council made changes in the program of development of the Ukrainian language in the Lviv region for 2012-2014, indicating in one of the provisions that the law on language policy is void in Lviv region.
