The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine offers the Parliament to cancel the labeling about the absence of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food composition, obliging manufacturers and importers to label products, in which the percentage of GMO exceeds 0.9%.
The relevant governmental draft law on amendments to certain Ukrainian laws on informing the public about the content of GMOs in food products was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on October 5.
As stated in the explanatory note to the document, the bill is designed to prevent unnecessary expenses of business entities for research of products, which are not related to genetic engineering and to bring national legislation in line with European requirements.
