Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych signed the law on amendments to the law of Ukraine on the status of war veterans and guarantees of their social security.

As the President’s press service informs, the law covers the disabled of the first group, combatants, the disabled veterans of II-III groups of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
As the first deputy head of the President’s Administration Iryna Akimova said, the changes cover sixty seven thousand citizens of Ukraine. "67 thousand war veterans, who are now at least 85 years old are entitled to additional benefits," she said.

According to her, the law provides for the increase of pensions according to the category - 25, 20, 10 per cent of the cost of living, that is, respectively, 221 UAH, 176.8 UAH, 88.4 UAH. Other key benefits - is reduce in utility tariffs for the mentioned categories of veterans, free use of public transport, and free use of railway once a year.

"Another benefit is the increase of payments provided in connection with the celebration of May 9," the first deputy head of the Administration said.

Akimova said that the implementation of the provisions of the law require additional 300 million UAH from the state budget.

"This law demonstrates the continued care for veterans of the Great Patriotic War," Akimova said.
