Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych hopes that Ukraine will move to a professional army based on contract principles in the near future, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych told media during his visit to the 240th training center for units of the 8th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ForUm learned from the President’s press office.
According to Yanukovych, this task is 100% dependent on financial support. "But we have set such a task," he said.
He reminded that contract soldiers already make up more than 50% of the army.
"We're moving on, and I am convinced that in the near future the Ukrainian army will be based on contract principles," Yanukovych said.
