Today, the Party of Regions will decide how to vote for the proposal of speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn to cancel the defamation bill on increasing responsibility for the denigration of honor and dignity of a person, the faction leader Oleksandr Yefremov told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

Yefremov also noted that his personal view on this matter is clear. "I voted for the bill in the first reading, and I will vote for it in future. I say this, despite the fact that majority of journalists oppose the bill. More than 90% of European countries have similar laws," Yefremov said.

In addition, the chairman of the faction said that the law does not apply to the journalists, as not a translator is subject to the liability, but the author or the source. In addition, he said, the bill stipulates that MPs shall be also held criminally liable for defamation.
