The authorities will pay attention to the problem of revival of so-called depressed areas and cities, President Viktor Yanukovych said at the ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, ForUm learned from the President’s press service.
Among the relevant measures he mentioned changing the mode of local budgets financing - a shift from general subsidies to the system of providing targeted assistance and increase the volume of targeted subsidies.
"Having taken the new version of the Budget Code two years ago, we began to strengthen the financial base of cities. We continue this trend in the budget process of the current year," Yanukovych said.
The President noted that at the macro-regional level the public funds will be directed at the construction and reconstruction of the most important regional objects. "They will increase the investment attractiveness of the region to promote greater employment and a better quality of life of citizens," he said.
