The presence of underground gas storage facilities is strategically important for Ukraine, ambassador for energy and transport issues of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Vitauskas Nauduzas told ForUm correspondent.
"Any storage of gas or other products increases their cost. This is obviously, but sometimes some surprises can happen. Thus, in order to protect ourselves from unpleasant surprises, we should have a certain amount of gas storage facilities," Nauduzas stressed.
He reminded that the Baltics states have the underground storage facility, Lithuania and Poland are planning to build. The EU promotes countries to keep the gas to ensure the survival of the country without import during one or two months in case of any unforeseen situations.
