17 Ukrainian sambo practitioners injured in the road traffic accident in Latvia were taken to hospital in Riga, spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Oleksandr Dikusarov told ForUm.

According to Dikusarov, ambassador and consul to Ukraine in Latvia left at the scene immediately after receiving the information about the accident. "According to the preliminary data of the police of Latvia, a bus with Ukrainian citizens went into the oncoming lane and collided with a truck. As a result, the bus fell into the ditch," the FM spokesman noted.

He said that according to the preliminary information, 17 people were injured in the accident, and nine children and one adult who were not injured were placed in the resort town of Salaspils.

"The Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia keeps contact with the Latvian medical facilities to obtain the necessary information about the victims and to provide the citizens of Ukraine with comprehensive assistance. This issue is under the special control in the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine," Dikusarov stressed.
