MP from the Party of Regions faction Oleksandr Yefremov expressed confidence that the bill to stiffen the penalties for infringement of the honor, dignity and business reputation should be subject to public debate before the second reading.

As the press-service of the Party of Regions informs, he said this during a meeting with members of the pre-electoral mission of the Special Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to monitor the parliamentary election in Ukraine October 28, 2012, commenting on adoption in the first reading of the draft law on amendments to the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine on increasing responsibility for the attack on the honor, dignity and business reputation.

"I do not know if it this law is or is not passed. When I was talking to reporters, I suggested, let's work together to make this document. In my opinion, it is not directed against journalists. It seeks for somehow organizing life in the state," Yefremov said.

"When I was talking to reporters, I asked the question, what country we live in, they told me: in the country of continuous slander. So I doubt very much that this law will be adopted before the election. But one thing is certainly - if it will be accepted, it will be in the format, which suits the majority of our citizens," Yefremov assured.
