Today, on September 21, the Donetsk City Council adopted a decision on granting Russian the status of regional language.
62 deputies of the City Council, who were present in the hall, voted in favor of this decision.
According to the decision, the City Council shall inform the territorial community of Donetsk that according to the law of Ukraine on principles of national language policy, according to the data of the Ukrainian population census 2001 on linguistic composition of the population, the Russian language is the regional language in Donetsk.
In addition, the Education Department and the Culture and Tourism Department of the Donetsk City Council shall submit the regional development program of the Russian language and Russian culture in the city of Donetsk for 2013-2017.
The Finance Department of the City Council was tasked while preparing the budget 2013 to consider funding of activities related to the implementation of the law.
