Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt said that the European Union will determine the future of relations with Ukraine after the parliamentary election, held on October 28.
"This issue will be on the agenda of the Council of Foreign Ministers in November," he said at the meeting of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament.

Bildt said that at the end of last week, he and the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule and chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament Elmar Brok, delivered a "strong message" to President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych about Europe expects free and fair elections.

"Of course, it's hard to call the election free and fair, when some opposition leaders are in prison," Bildt said.

He reiterated that the elections themselves and the way in which they are held will influence future relations between the EU and Ukraine.
