Number of killed and injured in road accidents increases in Kyiv

In Kyiv, for the first eight months of this year compared with the same period in 2011, the number of people killed and injured in road accidents increased, chief of the Automobile Technical Inspection Oleksandr Pidshmorha said during meeting with the heads of Kyiv motor transport service, ForUm correspondent reports.

Basically, he said, the statistics covers motor carriers.

According to Pidshmorha, for eight months of 2012, 68 (2011 – 62)  motor accidents, involving motor carriers, happened in Kyiv, which killed eight people (2011 - 2) and 105 people (2011 - 97) were injured.

 

"At the moment there is growth in all accident rates among drivers of passenger transport," he said.
According to him, the most problematic carrier is the Kyivpastrans company.

"In addition, a sad statistic is associated with an increase in surface transport in the city. In 2011, 10.450 buses were registered in the capital, and in 2012 – 12.676," the official said.

In turn, head of the Internal Ministry traffic police administration Kyiv department Anatoly Kurinny reported that 80% of road accidents in Kyiv are caused by non-resident drivers.
