In Ukraine, the pace of construction works has slowed by 8%, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said during the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Certainly, such dynamics has been provoked by both objective and subjective factors, as 2011 was perhaps the most productive year in modern Ukrainian history in terms of the state capital building," the head of the government said.

According to him, Ukraine quickly caught up the lost time within preparations for the European Football Championship 2012.

"As of today, the government completed the implementation of some large-scale tasks and passes to the implementation of new ones - the Affordable Housing program, new infrastructure projects. In this transition period, the pace of construction is known to be slow, but it does not explain the poor implementation of the program in certain regions".

According to him, in Crimea the volume of construction works decreased by 33% for eight months of 2012. In Zhytomyr region, the cities of Sevastopil and Kyiv and Cherkasy region construction works pace reduced by more than 15%.

"Therefore, I instruct the governors of these regions to conduct a detailed analysis of the causes of this situation and to take the necessary measures. A separate question I have to regional development, construction, housing and communal services minister of Ukraine Anatoly Blyzniuk. We passed the law on urban planning, simplified procedures on start of construction and putting into operation, however that have not influenced the volumes. The question arose: do not these measures work, or is it a local? "Azarov asked.

The PM also said that government transferred to regions nearly 2 billion UAH in the form of subsidies for social and economic development and through the regional development fund, which is 1.4 times more than last year.
