The Affordable Housing program is a real chance to get an apartment, but a few Ukrainians have taken advantage of it, regional development, construction, housing and communal services minister of Ukraine Anatoly Blyzniuk told reporters before the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

"This is the right and real process, and I always emphasize this is a chance for people, who want to have housing," he said, reminding that the procedure for obtaining a preferential loan is simplified, "People - banks and no officials".

As for usage by the year’s end of one billion allocated for the program, he said that the money will be used to equip the building sites.

"Currently, we are finishing construction of half-constructed buildings. 12.500 have been already proposed to people. Choose, please. There are 1.5 thousand apartments already put into operation. 70% of the flats are 60-90% ready," he said.

The minister noted that the main problem of the program is lack of desire of people to buy these apartments. According to him, many Ukrainians want to buy apartments, larger than those provided for in the program. In addition, one-and two-bedroom apartments are rarely proposed.

"People! 12.500 apartments are ready. Go and take them," the minister urged.
