Japan and China should refrain from violent conflict over the disputed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, the Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Voloshyn told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

"We consider that both countries should refrain from provocative actions and violence, and seek for a compromise solution through dialogue. This tension does not enhance security in the region and the world on the whole," he stressed.

Voloshyn said both Japan and China are very important partners for Ukraine, primarily in economics. "So we are absolutely not interested in confrontation in the region", he said.

As a reminder, tensions between the two countries and thousands of anti-Japanese rallies began in China after Japan had nationalized three of the five disputed Senkaku Islands (Chinese name Diaoyu) by buying them from a private individual.
