In July, the population of Ukraine fell by 36 thousand 683 people (0.08%) and, as of August 1, it amounted to 45 million 560 thousand 272 people, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine reported.
According to the Statistics Service, in the first half of 2012, Ukraine reached the highest birth rate since 2006, and it numbered 298 330 people.
At the same time, the mortality rate in January-July of 2012 amounted to 395 628 people, which was also the lowest rate for the last four years.
However, the population increased by 23.933 people at the expense of migrants.
As a reminder, in 2011, the population of Ukraine decreased by 0.3% compared with 2010, and as of January 1, 2012, it amounted to 45.63 million people.
The government planned to conduct a census in 2011, but moved it to the beginning of 2013.
