Ukraine is to strengthen and expand cooperation with Russia in all fields, particularly in science and education, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said at the meeting with the education and science minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Livanov, the Cabinet’s press office informs.

"We are determined to expand and strengthen our cooperation with Russia at all levels, including the levels of secondary and higher education. This is a strategic issue for us," Azarov said.
He stressed that the Ukrainian government will continue to maintain cooperative relations with the Russian science.

According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine and Russia over the last 20 years have the same problems in the education sector, in particular, the need to restore the close relationship that existed during the Soviet era between science and education, and between science, education and industry, between basic and applied research. "We need to restore the relationship between science and education and create research and education centers, which will have a major research base, laboratory facilities, and to develop education on the basis of such centers. We've got a fairly wide field of cooperation with Russia," Azarov said.

In turn Livanov said that Russia and Ukraine have established a good basis for the further promotion of cooperation in the scientific and educational fields. "There are opportunities for new forms of cooperation. There is considerable potential for enhancing cooperation in science. In science and innovation, we had very strong cooperative relations at levels of governments, ministries, academies and companies. I am convinced that we need to look for new forms of support such cooperation and to do all that the scientists actually interact," Russian minister said.
