About 35% of Ukrainian cancer patients die within the first year after making the diagnosis, chief oncologist of Kyiv Dmytro Osynsky told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reported.

"Such statistic shows the late diagnostic, although in recent years, there has been a tendency to reduce a number of cancer patients whose disease was detected at the third and fourth stages," he said.

According to the oncologist, last year, more than one million cancer patients were followed up at the dispensary observation. "And this number is constantly growing. In total, more than 150 thousand new patients were registered last year."

Osynsky said that cancer in Ukraine kills around 90 thousand people annually. "However, about 35% of them represent the working population," the doctor summed up.
