Ukraine is actively working to meet its commitments to the Council of Europe, to strengthen democratic institutions, in particular, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during the meeting with Council of Europe's Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland, ForUm learned from the President’s press service.

"We do not waste time, we have worked hard to meet commitments to the Council. The past few years and the current year have been pretty intense. We have been implementing reforms aimed at strengthening democratic institutions," Yanukovych said. He particularly thanked the Council of Europe’s experts for their cooperation during the preparation of the new Code of Criminal Procedure.
 
The President also expressed the belief that the outcome of today’s conference, dedicated to the first year of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2011-2014, will allow using even greater the potential of this authoritative international organization in support for the policy reforms in Ukraine.

Jagland, in turn, praised the work of Ukraine to implement the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine. "I am very pleased to say that all is going well with the implementation of the ambitious action plan," he said.
