
Signing the agreement on free trade area between Ukraine and the EU will considerably increase German investments in Ukraine’s economy, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said in the interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung German newspaper, the Cabinet’s press office informs.
"When some Eastern European countries acquired the EU membership, it become a serious incentive for the development of their economies, it revitalized the leading Western European companies activities. At present, the German investments in the Ukrainian economy make up about $ 8 billion. The signing of the FTA agreement will considerably increase the investment. The Eastern Committee of German economy has repeatedly stated its interest in the speedy establishment of a free trade area between Ukraine and the EU," Azarov said.
According to him, the German business understands that Ukraine can offer the EU much: fertile land, significant scientific and technical potential, unique geographical location for the transit of goods and energy, etc.
