Neither Ukraine nor the EU will benefit from delay in the Association Agreement signing, scientific director of the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation Olekandr Sushko told ForUm correspondent.

According to the expert, if the agreement is delayed for a long time, it will create risks for both parties. "For the EU these will be the elements of the political crisis - the possibility of the Eastern Partnership failure. For Ukraine - rocking of geopolitical swing, creating further integration instability. In general, the signing of the agreement will influence the country, will determine the model of development it chooses: in terms of both business and politics," the political analyst said.

He added that Kyiv should again bring the issue of signing into a focus. "At the same time, this political break gives us a window of opportunity, a reason of a good look at the contents of the agreement. It has a number of complex tasks, including reforming domestic regulatory areas that are considerably lagging behind of the European standards," Sushko said.

According to him, the Association Agreement provides an external (European) framework for the development of Ukraine, determines commitments on important reforms. "The agreement as international document of binding nature creates good preconditions for Ukrainian priorities regarding the rule of law, democracy and the market economy to be implemented in practice," the expert concluded.
