Ukraine offered Turkmenistan to simplify visa regime, the Cabinet’s press office informs.

During the meeting with the vice Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Baymyrat Hojamuhamedow, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov noted that despite Ukraine has a visa-free regime with more than 40 countries, it still has visa regime with Turkmenistan.

"Let’s first introduce visa-free regime for businessmen, and then will discuss the issue of visa-free regime for our citizens," Azarov suggested.

Another participant of the meeting, economic development and trade minister of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko noted that visa regime complicates participation of domestic companies in tenders held in Turkmenistan, as the Ukrainian businessmen do not managed to get a visa in time.

According to Poroshenko, activation of economic and trade relations can be also favored by the establishment of trading houses – the Turkmen in Ukraine and Ukrainian in Turkmenistan. To do this, Poroshenko instructed the economic departments of the relevant embassies to improve the organization of participation of Ukrainian companies in tenders, taking place in Turkmenistan.

In turn, vice Prime Minister of Turkmenistan noted that in recent years the trade and economic turnover between the two countries has increased threefold. He also offers Ukrainian companies to participate in the tender for the development of new gas fields.

Azarov emphasized that Ukraine is interested in renewing cooperation with Turkmenistan in the energy sector. He expressed a hope that two countries will be able to restore and develop bilateral relationship on a more qualitative level.

As a reminder, on July 4, the Verkhovna Rada ratified the agreement with Turkmenistan on long-term economic and trade cooperation.
