In Ukraine, 20% of heat boilers have been working for over 20 years, regional development, construction and housing minister Anatoly Blyzniuk told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

"In Ukraine, 23.000 boiler stations are being operated. They comprise almost 80.000 boilers, 16.000 of which, i.e. 20%, are more than 20 years old. Kyiv, Sevastopil and Dnipropetrovsk have the larger share of old boilers," the minister said.

According to him, this year the number of boiler stations has increased by two thousand, 285 of them this season will run on alternative fuels: wood, peat, coal.

"As of September 1, 93% of boilers were repaired. We planned the bigger figure, but one month is left, so we will reach 100%," Blyzniuk said.

In his view, the main problem of the coming cold season is an emergency condition of networks.
"15% of heat supply networks, 37% of water supply networks and 35% of sewerage networks are old and dilapidated. We must have the cash resources to change them, but the heat tariff covers only 53% of the cost of services. Water tariff covers 75%. Therefore, we have no means to change as many networks as we want to," Blyzniuk said.
