At the meeting on Wednesday, the Zaporizhia City Council decided to implement the provisions of the law on national language policy, which provides for granting the Russian language the status of regional language.
65 deputies out of 81 registered voted in favor of this decision.
The City Council recognized that, based on 2001census data, more than 10% of the residents of the city recognized Russian as their native language.
In this regard, the City Council decided on that the Russian language becomes regional in Zaporizhia.
The relevant committees were instructed to develop measures aimed at the implementation of the decision until October 15.
