Ukraine aims at the developing of modern media as an important component of effective democracy and civil society, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said at the opening of the 64th World Newspaper Congress and the 19th World Editors Forum, the President’s press service informs.

"We are well aware of that the development of media space positively influences the development, democracy, and the economy in Ukraine and contributes to the development of civil society in general," he said.

Today, Yanukovych said, there is a reform of media space in our country. "We set a goal to build a modern media system. I address you as members of this business: we will create the conditions for you to attract investments and the most advanced technology in this sector of the economy. And what is the most important - the experience, old democracies have," Yanukovych said.

"Ukraine is building partnerships with business. So I'll be glad to see you as our partners," he emphasized.

In turn, president of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers Jacob Mathew thanked Yanukovych for the hospitality and understanding of the mission and tasks of his organization.

"Like other countries that want to cooperate with us, you have expressed a desire to cooperate and build a fair and independent media business. You are our great friend," Mathew noted.
