The process of the development of freedom of speech in Ukraine requires the efforts of authorities and journalists, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during the opening of the 64th World Newspaper Congress and the 19th World Editors Forum, which take place in Kyiv, ForUm learned from the press service of the head of the state.

According to Yanukovych, not always rapid response of the law enforcement agencies to journalists’ signals is still a problem. "We will overcome the problem of inertia inherited from the past within a reform of the prosecution and law enforcement bodies," he said.

The President also reminded that Ukraine had already a positive experience of cooperation between media and law enforcement agencies in the Interagency Working Group provided the analysis of compliance with the law on freedom of expression and the protection of journalists’ rights.
