Next year, three centers of pediatric transplantation may be built in Ukraine, children's ombudsman Yuri Pavlenko told a briefing "On the immediate and urgent tasks of the President of Ukraine in the field of children's rights", ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the children's ombudsman, President Viktor Yanukovych put forward an initiative to build these centers.

"The work of centers’ building is already being carried out. And if we have necessary sum of money - 23 million UAH according to the Health Ministry, five centers will be built in the next year," he said.

Pavlenko reminded that as of today, children transplantation is conducted only in children's clinic Okhmatdet in Kyiv, and the new centers will be built in Lviv, Donetsk and Crimea.

In addition, he said that the President instructed to establish a register of donors. "The procedure that exists today makes possible to do a bone marrow transplant only from a relative. The establishment of the national registry provides an opportunity to transplant from a donor who is not a relative, as well as opens access to the world's donor registry," Pavlenko summed up.
