Currently, the National Bank of Ukraine is working out a program of the national currency development until 2017, deputy head of the National Bank of Ukraine Vira Rychakovska told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

"We are optimistic about the hryvnia’s future. Currently, a program of the national currency development until 2017 is being worked out. It will put emphasis on certain points: provision of necessary amount of cash, its quality and safety work with," she said.

Also, according to the deputy head of the NBU, in Ukraine, the amount of non-cash payments will increase in Ukraine in the long-term.

Meanwhile, Rychakovska noted that Ukraine will mark the 16th hryvnia’s anniversary on September 2.

"The name of our currency was chosen not by chance. Ukraine has a long history of cash flow. The first national monetary system was established in the Kyiv Rus times. Its the basic unit was the hryvnia, cast in silver or gold," Rychakovska said, noting that the hryvnia entered into circulation on September 2, 1996.
