The majority of the district electoral commissions (DECs) has already conducted first meetings and the members have taken an oath, deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine Andriy Mahera told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

"I cannot say that all 225 DECs, without exception, have begun their work, but the majority has already held the first meetings," he said.

Mahera also said that the CEC is collecting information on all 225 DECs and the whole picture will be known soon. The CEC member also said that under the new law, all the political parties members could have become the DECs members and 81 of them took part in the draw.

"Every party, which nominates at least one candidate for a single-mandate constituency may submit nominations for the DECs," Mahera said.

According to him, the quality of staff training is often poor. Often, the DECs members have to come from other cities and do not attend the meeting. "We need to find out why they did not come, whether there were some obstacles or people refused this work," Mahera said.
