By initiative of the Prime Minster of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, the Cabinet has established minimal level of purchase prices for milk from population at UAH 2.20 per liter, VAT excluded, press office of the Cabinet informs.

Prime Minister believes the current price situation is unacceptable, when plants purchase milk at UAH 1.6-1.8. "Up to 70% of milk in the country is produced by private farms, which must be protected from dishonest dealers, purchasing milk at artificially lowered prices," Azarov underlined.

The PM also changed the Agrarian Ministry to work out and submit by the end of August a draft bill, which obliges milk processing plants to specify ingredients on the packs of dairy products they produce, namely to specify if they used milk substitutes. The draft bill also must stipulate that all dairy products produced from milk substitutes must be displayed on separate shelves in supermarkets or food stores.

According to the PM, such law will protect consumer's rights and will enable consumers to tell natural dairy products from substitutes, as well as to decrease retail prices for substitutes.
