The prosecutor's office of the capital supported public prosecution in the criminal case against eight members of the organized criminal group, who illegally sold radioactive materials in Kyiv, ForUm learned from the Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office press service.

The case was initiated under the Articles 28, 265 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine- unlawful handling of radioactive materials by organized group.

It was established that the criminals sold metal objects containing depleted uranium, taken from the area of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. They were detained by the officers of Kyiv police and the Security Service of Ukraine during the selling of radioactive materials.

The Holosiivskyi district court in Kyiv sentenced all the members of the criminal group to imprisonment ranging from 8 years to 8 years and 6 months, depending on the role of each of the accomplices in the offence.
