Non-aligned status of the state opens more prospects for Ukraine, President Viktor Yanukovych said during his speech at the Ukraine National Palace, ForUm correspondent reports.
"The time of transformations and changes in the world is often accompanied by an increase of international conflicts. However, the effectiveness of the international law and the effectiveness of international organizations reduce. Ukraine, as a responsible member of the international relations, should make every effort to maintain peace and prevent a new global confrontation. Non-aligned status of the state opens up prospects for more active participation in international conflict resolution as a mediator," the President said.
In addition, he said that Ukraine needs to improve national security.
"The solution of this task requires a radical security sector and defense reform. The directions of these reforms have already been defined in the new edition of the Strategy of National Security and the Military Doctrine. The tasks will be executed in the next few years," the President promised.
